Nancy Mooers passed away on July 31, 2008, but her memory lives on in the Madrona Elementary School library. Her family had asked that donations in her memory be made to Madrona’s library. To date, donations totaling $2,580 are being used to purchase library books, each with a red bookplate in the front of the book with the inscription “In loving memory of principal, Nancy Mooers.” Nancy began her career in our district as a sixth-grade teacher at Lake Burien School in 1963. She worked at Midway from 1972-74 as a reading specialist and at ERAC from 1974-82 school years as a language arts/reading specialist. Nancy was principal at Beverly Park from 1982-85, Hilltop from 1985-91, and Madrona from 1991 to her retirement on June 30, 1994.

Margaret Foote Gudmestad passed away on October 10 at the age of 86. During her 15 years in Highline beginning in 1965, she taught at Gregory Heights, Valley View, Shorewood, Midway, and North Hill.
